Since 1996 the John Blair Trust has provided cash help to medical and dental students to allow them to research and study medical history, and prizes for students' medical history projects. A large number have been made over the years. Students wishing financial help, or medical teachers wishing grants for teaching or prizes, should apply directly to the senior trustee:
Dr Elizabeth Lazenby, MA, PhD, 15, Rectory Terrace, Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE3 1YB
e-mail lizlazenby@btinternet.com

The John Blair Trust was initiated in late 1995, to commemorate the contributions he made to both British and International Medical History when he organised the International Congress in Glasgow in 1994 and the British Congress in St Andrews in 1995. The first made a profit of £15,000, which became the initial capital of the Trust.

The Trust is formally constituted in Scots Law, and is a fully registered Charity. Its format was up-dated by the Scottish Executive in 2004. It is managed by its four trustees alone, in law. Its finances are managed by them and the investments are managed by brokers. The Deed of Trust objectives are: 'the promotion of the study of the history of Medicine by undergraduate Students of Medicine and the allied sciences.' John Blair was senior trustee until September 2007, and has now handed over this position to Dr Elizabeth Lazenby.
